The numbers in the "No." column are in the chronological order of when the agents were recruited by the VALORANT Protocol. New agents take 12–15 months to develop, and their design is focused around points such as what's missing from the game's current playstyles, are there any prospective thematics that present big opportunities, and what’s needed for better game health.

It is the intention of the developers that a new agent be released around once per act. Since the Closed Beta launch on April 7, 2020, Raze was added, bringing the Agent total to 10. Riot was aiming to launch the game with 12 agents, but only 8 were available in the early press builds. Sentinel agents are defensive experts who can lock down areas and watch flanks, both on attacker and defender rounds.Initiator agents challenge angles by setting up their team to enter contested ground and push defenders away.Duelist agents are self-sufficient fraggers who their team expects, through abilities and skills, to get high frags and seek out engagements first.Controller agents are experts in slicing up dangerous territory to set their team up for success.Depending on their abilities and playstyle, agents will be assigned to one of four roles: New players can also unlock two additional agents by progressing through the Welcome Contract.Įach agent has 100 base HP (increased with shields) and four abilities, including a Signature and an Ultimate ability. All other agents must be unlocked by purchasing them from Agent Store for either 1,000 or 8,000. We hoped that the first Glitchpop set would be enough of a hit that players would want more guns in the theme, so we went ahead and added not just a Vandal or Phantom or Operator but ALL THREE.Five agents are immediately available for players to use Brimstone, Jett, Phoenix, Sage, and Sova. Finally, we decided to take a bet on Glitchpop and started making 5 more weapons for the theme even though the first Glitchpop (and VALORANT itself) still had not been released. By the end of 2019, when the skins were about half-way done, many of us wished that we could go back in time to add one of those three guns to Glitchpop but it was too late. That’s why Glitchpop doesn’t have any of our high play-rate skins (like a Vandal, Phantom, or Operator).
#VALORANT 2.02 PATCH SKIN#
Last year, our senior artists Sean Bigham and Chris Stone did a very thorough deep dive into the goals of Glitchpop, which you can read about here.Īny unexpected challenges or novelty stories you’d like to share when designing Glitchpop?ĪNSWER: When we started work on the first Glitchpop set in 2019, we were still very early in our skin development. And a player who has bought both skin sets should feel really great about outfitting almost all of their guns with Glitchpop! We think there might be a lot of these players, so this new Glitchpop set includes a brand-new accessory bundle. A player looking back at the first and second set of Glitchpop skins side-by-side shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two skin lines in terms of quality, cohesion, and fantasy. What were your goals when designing Glitchpop?ĪNSWER: Similar to last year’s Glitchpop skins, we wanted these five new weapons to feel like they fit right in with the bright, loud, colorful, and dystopian world of Glitchpop.
